  • What is CranioSacral Therapy (CST)?
CranioSacral Therapy incorporates a light therapeutic touch and gentle traction to help release bone and tissue restrictions in the body. CranioSacral Therapy works on the connective tissue surrounding the brain and spinal cord to bring the Nervous System into balance. This form of bodywork is gentle and supportive, yet creates deep change.
  • How Can Children Benefit from CST?
Anyone who wants to improve the function of the nervous system, relieve pain or dysfunction in their body can benefit from CST. Common medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction improved by CST include: - tongue and lip ties - torticollis (neck tightness) - difficulty in latching - failure to thrive - chronic ear infections - colic/reflux digestive disorders - upset in the car seat - difficulty in tummy time - plagiocephaly (head flattening) - favor turning their head to one side - favor nursing on one side or feed in one position
  • Why Should My Baby Receive CST?
An infant's irregular position in utero can result in abnormal muscle tension and compression in the body. During the birth process an infant’s cranial bones shift to fit through the birth canal. If there is a particularly difficult birth, complications, injuries, or interventions used, this can cause nerve compression. This compression can show up in many ways such as feeding issues, digestive discomfort, and increased fussiness. CST is an excellent, gentle therapy for babies who are experiencing those symptoms, or as regular health care for your newborn.
  • Where Do You Provide CST?
I currently am not providing any home visits at this time due to COVID19. I provide treatments for adults, children and infants in office at Indigo Physiotherapy. To schedule an appointment: https://www.indigophysio.com/
  • How Can Adults Benefit from CST?
Anyone who wants to improve the function of the nervous system, relieve pain or dysfunction in their body can benefit from CST. Common medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction improved by CST include: - Migraine Headaches - Chronic Neck and Back Pain - Orthopedic Problems - Scoliosis - Learning Disabilities - Chronic Fatigue - Emotional Difficulties - Stress and Tension-Related Problems - Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders - Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ) - Immune Disorders - Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - Postpartum healing
  • Why Should I Receive CST?
Each day the body works to compensate for the stresses it endures. These changes unfortunately cause body tissues to tighten and alter the craniosacral system. Restrictions are a result from these alterations that cause tension to form around the brain and spinal cord. This can affect the healthy performance of the central nervous system, resulting in pain and dysfunction in the body. CST uses light touch and gentle traction to help release bone and tissue restrictions.
  • How Do You Provide CST?
For adults, CranioSacral Therapy is performed on a fully clothed client who is lying on a massage table. Please wear comfortable, loose clothing (preferably not jeans). For infants CranioSacral Therapy is performed fully clothed as well. Baby can receive treatment in the arms of the caregiver, in my arms, on a massage table, sofa, or on a blanket on the floor. If baby is mobile, I will ask the caregiver to bring with them a favorite toy to help entertain them, and I bring toys to home visits.
  • How Long is a CST Session?
I work with the body and follow how long to treat certain areas of the body with the feedback I feel in my hands. A session for an adult can be between 45-60 minutes. I schedule initial consultations with a child or infant for 90 minutes. I use this time to conduct an interview with the parents, establish a relationship with the child or infant, and the treatment. The treatments can vary in duration depending on the child. The good news is children release quickly. Follow up sessions are scheduled for 60 minutes but this allows for time for meeting the child’s needs with feeding, soothing, and breaks between treatments.
  • What is the investment for a CST session?
In Office $155 initial eval 90 min $105 45 min follow up
